Are Communer's listing prices up for negotiation? Can I make an offer for a brand name or are all prices final?
All prices on Communer are final. Our platform doesn't offer negotiation or bidding features because we want you to be able to buy a brand name on Communer immediately without wondering whether you got the best possible price for that trademark.
What types of payment do you accept?
We accept credit/debit card, PayPal, several regional payment processors, and buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) providers like Affirm, Afterpay, and Klarna, depending on the trademark's value and your location. For larger purchases (roughly $10,000 or more), we also accept bank transfer if you reach out to us and let us know you'd like to pay that way.
Can I pay for a trademark in installments using a BNPL service like Affirm, Afterpay, or Klarna?
Yes, you can pay in installments! Just add a trademark to your cart and begin the checkout process. Once you've started the checkout process, you can choose to pay in installments using PayPal, Google Pay, Afterpay, or Klarna. We are not yet able to offer Affirm because Affirm considers Communer a "B2B" business type, which Affirm does not currently support.
Any payment option available to you will be visible on the checkout page when you choose a payment method. If you don't see any of these options, then you or the product might not be eligible.
How soon will I be the legal owner of the trademark after I pay for it?
Most of our buyers become the new legal owner of the trademark within three days of paying for it. Shortly after payment is made, Communer generates a trademark assignment agreement for e-signature by both the buyer and seller. When both parties e-sign, the buyer is now the legal owner of the trademark.
Once both parties e-sign the trademark transfer agreement, Communer's partner law firm, JPG Legal, will record the trademark assignment with the USPTO. The buyer does not pay an additional fee for this filing. The $100 cost for this (including $40 government fee) comes out of the sale price before sending the payout to the seller. Communer does not receive a portion from this amount; the whole $100 goes to legal fees.
This process does not change the legal owner, but it updates the ownership records in the public trademark database. The assignment recordation process usually takes about one week for the USPTO process, though it can take as long as a month or two if complications arise. Once the assignment recordation process is complete, the USPTO will update the listed owner in its TESS search engine and its TSDR trademark records shortly after.
Does the buyer or seller need to file anything with the trademark office to make the trademark purchase official?
No, Communer handles everything.
How fast can I get Amazon Brand Registry access if I buy a trademark on Communer?
Around half of Communer's buyers are Amazon sellers, so we make the Amazon Brand Registry process as quick and reliable as possible. Our buyers typically gain Amazon Brand Registry access within one week of paying for their trademark.
Once the buyer and seller both e-sign the trademark assignment agreement generated by Communer, the buyer can apply for Amazon Brand Registry using that trademark's registration number. Amazon will send a verification code to the seller, which the seller is then required to forward to the buyer in a timely manner as stated in the assignment agreements we generate.
As long as you apply for Amazon Brand Registry within two weeks of buying your trademark, the seller will not receive their money until you gain Amazon Brand Registry access. This ensures that the seller will do everything possible to give you access to Amazon Brand Registry as soon as possible.
Communer cannot control the actions of Amazon and thus we cannot guarantee that Amazon will grant the buyer Brand Registry access, but all trademarks we sell that are registered for physical goods (e.g. hats, drinkware, furniture, USB hubs) or retail store services should be eligible for Amazon Brand Registry as long as they're not on the Supplemental Register. Very few Communer trademarks are on the Supplemental Register (as of this writing, none are). When trademarks are on the Supplemental Register, we warn you of that in the listing.
If you buy a trademark that is on the Supplemental Register or is registered for services (e.g. management consulting, spa services, restaurant services), then you cannot get a refund or exchange simply because Amazon won't accept that trademark for Brand Registry. The exception is "retail store services" in class 35, which we know is eligible for Amazon Brand Registry access based on our data, at least as of now.
The vast majority of our trademark buyers are able to get Amazon Brand Registry without recording their trademark assignment with the USPTO. If for some reason you are unable to get Amazon Brand Registry at first, we recommend recording your trademark assignment with the USPTO, which we will give you details on how to do. The USPTO currently takes two business days to process an assignment recordation, plus about 3-7 calendar days to update the public database.
Do I need to renew my trademark after I buy it? When do I need to renew it? How?
Yes, once you buy a trademark, you are responsible for filing timely renewals. Make sure to track your trademark renewal deadline(s).
To see the next renewal deadlines for a trademark listed on Communer, just click the link at the top of the listing that takes you to the USPTO's Trademark Status and Document Retrieval (TSDR). Then click the "Maintenance" tab and you'll see the next renewal deadline.

For more details about the trademark renewal process and how to check when the next renewal is due, check out this blog post written by our founder.
If your renewal deadline is coming up and you want an attorney to handle it for you, our partner law firm offers competitive rates for renewals. You can use this form to hire them for your next renewal.
What does Markhound® Appraisal mean?
The Markhound® Appraisal is our estimate of how much a brand is worth. Markhound incorporates Communer’s proprietary sales data, trademark details, the USPTO's trademark database API, our AI-assisted marketability score, and additional brand assets such as domain name or social media handles. Every listing features the Markhound Appraisal near the listing price.

How does Communer make money? Does the seller pay a commission? Are there any other fees for sellers?
For buyers, Communer does not charge any additional fees beyond the purchase price.
For sellers, Communer charges a 15% commission from the sale price. Communer also deducts the payment processing fee for the purchase from the payout to the seller (typically about 3%, occasionally 5-6%).
The seller must also choose how they receive their payout, for which payment processing fees may apply as well. By default we send payouts by PayPal, but sellers can also ask to be paid by bank transfer (if in the US) or Payoneer.
Communer does not charge any upfront fees for sellers. Go here for more details about selling a trademark on Communer.
